Energy Release

Today I was listening to Cory Muscara on the Know Thyself podcast. He is a former monk and described that when he meditates, his body will typically twist and turn and move, releasing all of the stored energy in the different parts of the body. He said most people will try to maontain a perfect posture which prevents that energy release. I've heard this described by people before who have said that during meditation they found themselves twisting their upper body all the way around as a big energy was released. This does not surprise me, however I felt like I probably have never really experienced this before, outside of obvious things like exercise.

That was, until I woke up in the middle of the night in a twisted position and wanting to turn over and having the thought "dont move too much, you will wake him." I already felt like people who move a lot in their sleep are more stressed, traumatized, etc., however I used to think that it was just because they couldn't sleep as soundly and that the energy in their body's was buzzing around. And I guess that's true, but now I am connecting the two things, I realized that when you sleep you are essentially going through this energetic unwinding of the body to release these energies.

In March, my husband started experiencing sleep troubles for a long stretch of time. This was the first time in our relationship that he's had sleep issues, typically I do not need to worry at all about disrupting him. Because I didn't want to disrupt him, I started to try to lay still in the bed. However, this often made me energetically uncomfortable and resulted in my own sleep troubles which often led to me moving out to the couch where I could move all I wanted to. In general, I have not been sleeping as well since then. Well, through this new lens, it makes me wonder if that now I am consciously trying not to move, it is actually causing a "backup" of energy in my body that needs released and that's what is causing the discomfort and actually making me want to move in bed MORE.

I then started to think of my ex husband who had horrible RLS and it made me wonder if my light sleeping troubles actually made this worse for him. And same too with my husband, neither of us moved as much in our sleep until we started sleeping together regularly. Is it the act of co-sleeping and not trying to disrupt them that actually makes it worse because you are not able to release the energy of the body, as needed?

Edit: after I wrote this I moved to the couch so I could move all I wanted to and it was amazing and I released a lot of energy and then I fell asleep, lol.
